John,
You're account of your time in Ascó is wonderful. There are many things I do not know about my family history, and perhaps these are things that only surface between intimate long-term friends, and I thank you for sharing them. I, myself, am very proud of my grandparents and my father; my grandfather, who I never had the opportunity to meet, my grandmother, who had more charm and talent than any book could ever recount, and my father, who never ceases to surprise me (such as to know that he once had a strong Spanish accent). Know that you and your family are welcome back in Spain whenever you wish. And that with me in Madrid and that in Barcelona with my father you have a home.
Kind regards,
R.

John,

I learned more in your posting than I did in a whole year of History 4A/B (Western Civ) at Cal. I had forgotten the part about going to school with your mom. Great stuff.

Thank you John. Brief of necessity but does give some insights into our lifelong friendship. If I had co-authored the piece I would have mentioned my great admiration for your mom. And I may not have met your dad, but judging from your integrity, work ethic and open mind (qualities that you must have gotten from both parents) I am sure I would have also admired him. And then again there were those good times in college...
